Located in the town of Palccoyo in Cuzco, Peru, the Palccoyo Rainbow Mountain (4,700 m) is a breathtaking spectacle. With three rainbow-colored mountains, extensive reddish valleys and an impressive geological wonder known as the Bosque de Piedra, this place is perfect for nature lovers and hiking enthusiasts who wish to explore the Peruvian Andes.
As we travel through this mystical landscape, we will enjoy spectacular views of the snow-capped Apu Ausangate, Cuzco’s highest and most sacred mountain. Along the way, we will also encounter ancient Inca, colonial and republican bridges, picturesque villages in the Vilcanota valley and Andean people tending their llamas and alpacas. The area is also home to various wild animals.
Compared to other rainbow mountains in Peru, Palccoyo receives far fewer visitors and requires a less strenuous uphill hike, allowing you to fully appreciate the natural beauty without having to compete for the best views. If you are looking for a unique and tranquil destination, Palccoyo Rainbow Mountain is an excellent choice.

Cusco - Rainbow Mountain Placcoyo - cusco
Before your hike to Rainbow Mountain Palccoyo, your guide will brief you on all the necessary details and information.
The hike will begin early in the morning (around 5:00 am) with pick up from your hotel in Cusco in our private transportation. The journey to the colorful mountain will take us through the beautiful South Valley, passing through valleys, rivers, mountains and small communities, and will take approximately 3 hours. We will have breakfast in the community of Palcoyo (4326 m / 14,189 ft), which is also our starting point.
After breakfast, we will begin a gradual uphill hike (30-45 minutes) to reach the Rainbow Mountain Palcoyo Pass (5000 m / 16,400 ft). Here, you will witness spectacular panoramic views of three peaks of Rainbow Mountain Palccoyo, red valleys, and the impressive snow-capped Ausangate (the highest mountain in the Cusco region).
At the top of the pass, we will spend approximately 1 hour taking pictures, having a snack, and soaking in the breathtaking view of the Vilcanota Mountain Range. Once we finish enjoying the scenery, we will descend for about 30 minutes to reach the starting point and take the bus to the place where we will have a delicious lunch. After lunch, we will return to your hotel in Cusco. This hike is a great alternative for those looking to witness the natural wonders of Peru without having to endure intense uphill treks or crowds of tourists.
