DAY
1

Cusco – Santa Maria – Santa Teresa (Biking and Rafting)

At 7:00 a.m., we will leave Cusco and head to the Sacred Valley of the Incas, where a buffet breakfast will be served. Our biking tour will begin at Abra Malaga (4,350 masl or 14,160 feet), after a brief orientation and preparation of the equipment provided by your guide.

The 3-hour (9.55 km or 5.93 miles) downhill bike ride will take us through the scenic route of snow-capped mountains and tropical forests until we reach the village of Huamanmarca.

At this point, we will transition into our adventure in the Peruvian Amazon, crossing small streams and experiencing the change from cold to tropical climate. There will be stops to check the bike and equipment along the way.

We will have lunch in Santa Maria (1,200 masl or 3,937.01 feet) and spend our first night in a hotel. In the afternoon, those interested can participate in a rafting activity on the Vilcanota River (US$30), which offers category III and III+ rapids.

Helmets, windbreakers and category V life jackets will be provided for this activity, available between April and December. Please note that swimming is required to comply with Peruvian law. (Includes breakfast, lunch and dinner / hotel accommodation).

Santa Teresa – Machu Picchu Town (Trekking and Zip line)

The second day of our tour offers an optional zip-line activity with a trusted operator for approximately two hours. After breakfast, we will take a shuttle to the hydroelectric plant, where the government control is located, and the entrance to Machu Picchu National Park.

From there, we will begin our hike to the town of Aguas Calientes. On the way, we will pass by Intihuatana, a small archaeological site where the guide will give you an explanation to help you better understand the site.

Our journey will then take us to Inka Rakay, where we will enjoy a delicious lunch. As we continue walking, we will admire the grandeur of the mountains of Machu Picchu, Huayna Picchu, and other archaeological sites on the mountainside.

We will conclude the trek in Aguas Calientes, where we will spend the third night of the tour.

The Most Important Day – Machu Picchu!

Today is the most significant day of the tour, as you will visit one of the Seven Wonders of the World. To appreciate the sunrise at the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu, the excursion starts early in the morning.

You can choose to walk or take the bus ($12) to the entrance of the archaeological site. Once inside, you will have a two-hour guided tour of the most important temples of the Inca city of Machu Picchu, such as the Temple of the Sun and the Temple of the Three Windows.

After the guided tour, you will have free time to explore Machu Picchu on your own. If you have booked in advance, you can choose to climb Huayna Picchu Mountain (2,800 meters/9,186.35 feet) or Machu Picchu Mountain (3,082 meters/10,111.55 feet) for an additional cost of 20 USD. However, please note that space is limited to only 400 people per day for the hike to Huayna Picchu Mountain, so it is recommended to make reservations three months in advance.

It is also recommended to take some time to relax, meditate and enjoy the magical and spiritual energies of this extraordinary place.

Once you have finished exploring Machu Picchu, you will return to Aguas Calientes to take the train back to Ollantaytambo and Cusco.
